Armies of the Russo-Polish War 1919-21
(Men-at-Arms)

Published on 20 November 2014

In February 1919 the army of newly independent Poland advanced into Belarus and Ukraine, intent on re-establishing the medieval Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. They were rebuffed by the Soviet Red Army which began to advance into Poland, only to be defeated by the Poles at the epic Battle of Warsaw in August 1920, a Polish victory which kept Eastern Europe safe from Soviet communism for almost twenty years. This book covers the battles and gives detauiled information on the organization, order of battle, uniforms and insignia of the Soviet and Polish forces Poland’s Ukrainian allies. There will be charts of rank insignia and eight colour-plates of uniforms, completing the best study in English of this neglected subject.

Military Book Reviews by Nigel Thomas

  1. I buy a lot of books on military subjects, especially military uniforms, orders of battle, biographies of general officers and general military history. I will post here short reviews of books which I have bought. I will recommend buying or not, and where to buy.
  2. Publishers are welcome to send in review-copies to me, but I reserve the right to be brutally honest with my review.
